Successful River Closure of Tatai Hydropower Project, Cambodia

On January 12, the main dam river closure ceremony was held on the site of Tatai Hydropower Project in Koh Kong Province, Cambodia, which is invested by China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC). Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen attended the ceremony and witnessed this historical juncture with more than 1500 people including Chinese workers and local people of all circles in Cambodia. Prime Minister Hun Sen fully affirmed and highly appreciated the successful river closure of Tatai Hydropower Project and its role in social and economic development of Cambodia in the future.

Since the Tatai Hydropower Project started on March 29, 2010, after eight months of commitment by all staff, the main dam has met the requirements of main dam river closure. This milestone indicating that the project goes forward from the phase of preparation to main construction has laid a solid foundation for safety of the main dam in flood season at the end of May 2011, successful launch of the first generating unit on August 31, 2013, and completion of the project.

This project will exert very positive effects on development of the power system in Cambodia, regional economy of Koh Kong Province, as well as economic and social development of Cambodia. It will also make an important contribution to deepening economic and trade cooperation and traditional friendship between China and Cambodia.
