On April 1, the opening ceremony of the Zambia Housing Construction Project of which the EPC contract was signed by the SINOMACH Group and EPC construction undertaken by the China National Machinery Industry Complete Engineering Corporation (CMCEC), was held at the Twin Palm air base in the Zambian capital Lusaka. President Banda of Zambia attended the ceremony and laid the foundation for the project.

The Phase I of the Zambia Housing Construction Project is worth USD 430 million and will deliver 4,527 units of houses with 604,000 m2 of floor area, making it the largest engineering project ever since the founding of the Republic of Zambia. This is also a milestone of the economic and trade cooperation between China and Zambia and a project to implement the USD 10 billion preferential loans concluded on the 4th ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
